Tekedra N. Mawakana Joins Yahoo! to Lead Global Public Policy

By Ron Bell, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary

As the pace of innovation accelerates and the Internet forges new ground in the way we discover, share, and communicate, Yahoo! is committed to working closely with our partners in government and the industry to implement online and mobile policies that better serve and protect our users.

To help lead these efforts, I'm thrilled to welcome Tekedra N. Mawakana to Yahoo!'s team in Washington, D.C., where she will lead our global public policy efforts.

Tekedra joins us as Deputy General Counsel and Vice President, Global Public Policy, where she will develop and direct Yahoo!'s global public policy strategy and team, with responsibility for global government affairs. Tekedra and her team will work closely with lawmakers and regulators around the world on key issues including privacy, intellectual property, business and human rights, high-skilled immigration reform and cyber-security.

Tekedra previously served as Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Deputy General Counsel at AOL. Before joining AOL in 2001, she worked as Senior Corporate Counsel at Startec Global Communications Company. She began her career as an Associate in the Telecommunications and Intellectual Property groups at law firm Steptoe & Johnson LLP, in the Washington, D.C. office.

Here's what Tekedra had to say about joining Yahoo!: "The complexity of technology platforms and the pace of innovation creates unique challenges as governments work to develop smart policies for online and mobile businesses around the world. There is a critical need for public policy engagement, and I look forward to advocating on behalf of Yahoo! and the hundreds of millions of users, advertisers, partners and employees who rely on its platform."

We're thrilled to work with Tekedra -- I'm confident that her expertise, strategic leadership and industry relationships will serve Yahoo! and our users well.

Welcome to Yahoo!.
